I just got a phone call letting me know that I’m an uncle again.
It’s a great feeling.
I don’t know why, but it is. I don’t even know what my new nephew, Mr. Justus, looks like, but I’m excited. I’m also happy for my younger sister and my brother-in-law.
Perhaps most of all, I’m happy for my new nephew Justus. The new baby boy doesn’t know this yet, but he’s one of the luckiest babies ever born. Why? Because he’s got amazing parents. My sister and my brother-in-law are literally the most perfect people I’ve ever met.
My sister used to occasionally annoy me growing up. No matter how well I behaved (considering my capabilities), she always made me look bad by always behaving better without seeming to try. I had so much fun teasing her, because there would be those incredibly rare occasions where I could spark some mischievousness in her. Whether my teasing got her to throw soap bubbles at me, or to compete with me at holding our breath underwater when we were supposed to be doing dishes, she is an irreplaceable sister.
Today my younger sister is a mom. Feels odd. Actually, it felt odd when she told me she was getting married. But when she told me she was marrying one of my friends, I was happy. He’s one of those few people in life that has earned my respect. And now, they are parents.
I can’t wait to see the little fellow. I’m guessing he takes after his uncle and is a cute baby.
In any case, I have a new human being in my life and I look forward to being as great an uncle as our opposite paths will allow.
